An industrial design patent (sometimes also called right) is the registration of the appearance of something. An industrial design right is a type of intellectual property right that protects the visual design of objects that are not purely utilitarian.

An industrial design right consists of the creation of a shape, configuration or composition of pattern or color, or combination of pattern and color in three-dimensional form containing aesthetic value. An industrial design right can be a two- or three-dimensional pattern used to produce a product, industrial commodity or handicraft.

To qualify for registration in the Philippines, the national laws of most member states of WIPO require the design to be novel.

If you have filed for an industrial design in another country, the term for filing a design application in the Philippines. A Philippine design application claiming conventional priority must be filed to the Philippine IP Office within six months from the priority date.
